As I searched the crowd for your face,
Learning lessons in the calla lilies and the organ’s song.
A wave of unexpected relief rolls over me
When I realize I can’t find you.
You can’t create a forever with someone
Who doesn’t seem to notice you’re gone.
We danced until midnight
And I had a sneaking feeling
That it was going to be alright
As I soaked in the laughter of the party,
Studying the smiles filling the cathedral and the rice in the air.
The lucky couple shares a moment of joy
And I realize I don’t miss you.
You can’t create a forever with someone
Who doesn’t seem to care that you’re there
We cheered after their tail lights
And the gaze of the stars felt so healing
And the future felt so bright
